Sino-German Law Lecture Series: German Law Tour held

In order to promote the undergraduates' understanding of the College and their interest in German law, the Institute of Sino-German Law of the College held the first lecture of Sino-German Law Lecture Series — ‘German Law Tour’ on Changping Campus on the evening of 6 Nov, 2023.


Prof. Xie Libin, Prof. Zhang Tong, A/Prof. Chi Ying, A/Prof. Huang He were the guest speakers. Lecturer Wu Yiyue moderated the lecture.



Firstly, Xie Libin showed the basic contents of the German constitution to the students from four aspects, the history of the German constitution, the principle of the constitution, the organisation of the state and the basic rights. Although it was a brief introduction, it deepened the students’ understanding of the German constitution and was well-welcomed by the students.



Next, starting with the process of EU integration, Zhang Tong explained the origins of EU law in a simple and in-depth way, pointing out that the laws of the EU and member states have formed a profound interactive relationship. She said that the EU law has absorbed a lot of relevant laws of its member states while also has affected the development of German law.



Chi Ying then started with the formulation of the German Civil Code, focusing on the reform of the German debt law at the beginning of this century and recommending the German jurist Flume and his famous work on legal acts to the students.



Huang He opened his speech with a few vivid examples to enlighten the students about German criminal law and criminal procedure, and then guided them on a path to enter the world of German criminal justice.



Wu Yiyue also shared with the students his experience in learning German law and studying in Germany.



During the Q&A session, students enthusiastically asked questions, including books on German law, how to learn German law and Chinese law, and the enrollment of Institute of Sino-German Law. All the teachers also gave full answers.


This activity enhanced the exchange between the teachers and the undergraduates, promoted the popularity of the College, and played a good role in promoting the future postgraduate enrollment.
